CITY OF WESTLAKE VILLAGE CREATING A TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIC PLAN
RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES ASKED TO ATTEND FOCUS GROUP MEETINGS

The City of Westlake Village is currently undertaking the process of creating an Information Technology Strategic Plan (ITSP). Once completed, the ITSP will serve as a guide to the City Council on technology initiatives for both “internal” operations at City Hall and “external” use throughout the City by residents and businesses. The current ITSP process provides several opportunities for citizen engagement. The first is a Residential Focus Group. This 1.5 hour meeting will be held at City Hall on Thursday, May 8 at 6:00 pm. Residents are encouraged to attend this very important initial meeting to help guide not only the use of technology but the potential enhancement of the community’s technology infrastructure. Following the May 8 focus group, residents of all ages will be asked to take an online survey that will be available via the City’s website (wlv.org) beginning on May 21.

Once the findings of the residents’ focus group and online survey have been reviewed, the City will host three additional workshops on June 17, 23, and 24 at 6:00 pm at Westlake Village City Hall. These “Visioning” meetings will synthesize the survey and focus group results through the findings of the City’s 2015 Strategic Plan (originally published in 2006.) The first workshop will review the findings and evaluate them in light of the City’s 2015 Strategic Plan’s core values

involving: (1) Quality Setting; (2) Engaged Lifestyle; (3) Collaborative Approach; and (4) Responsive Local Government. The subsequent two workshops will review the findings and measure them against the 2015 Strategic Goals of: (1) Sense of Community; (2) Quality Environment; (3) Open Space Preservation; (4) Community Health Initiatives; (5) Strong Economy; (6) Technology; and (7) Accessible Government. It is anticipated that these workshops will involve any and all interested residents and businesses along with others potentially identified in the earlier focus groups or appointed by the City Council.

In addition to the residential focus group, the City will be hosting two additional meetings. The first will be centered on community businesses to identify ways in which the City can assist local businesses with their technology needs. The business focus group will be held on Thursday, May 8 at 3:30 pm at City Hall. In addition, the City will host a focus group meeting that morning at 10:00 am with neighboring public agencies in an effort to identify and discuss potential region-wide technology initiatives.

This overall IT project was initiated by the City in an effort to identify both immediate and long term needs and strategies associated with both the use of technology and the potential enhancement of the community’s technology infrastructure. All residents are encouraged to become engaged and involved in this important project.
